Episode 5
Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord
This episode is about repentance and how the gospel can change you! This episode introduces Mark as one of the contributors to the New Testament. We learn a little more about John the Baptist and how he started calling people to repentance and baptizing them. Then I speak about repentance – a lot. I give the Parable of the Dairy and talk about Alma the younger’s experience with repentance. I then talk a little about a Christian author that I love named Jen Hatmaker and her feelings on helping our kids build a better relationship with the Savior. I end with the parable of the Prodigal Son.
(And if any of your kids draw John the Baptist and you email them to me at comefollowme4us@gmail.com, I’ll post them on this blog!)
Here’s a link to Jen’s book, “For the Love” It’s probably my favorite of hers. https://www.amazon.com/Love-Fighting-Grace-Impossible-Standards/dp/0718031822/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1548659565&sr=8-1&keywords=for+the+love+jen+hatmaker+book
And here’s a link to the lesson in the manual
Here are the key quotes from the lesson
Elder Holland. “However many chances you think you have missed, however many mistakes you feel you have made or talents you think you don’t have, or however far from home and family and God you feel you have traveled, I testify that you have not traveled beyond the reach of divine love. It is not possible for you to sink lower than the infinite light of Christ’s Atonement shines.”
Henry B. Eyring.
“When responsibility is accepted and the urgency to repent is felt, the question may come, “Where do I start?” Each life is unique. But for all, repentance will surely include passing through the portal of humble prayer. Our Father in Heaven can allow us to feel fully the conviction of our sins. He knows the depths of our remorse. He can then direct what we must do to qualify for forgiveness. For serious sin, we will need to confess to a judge in Israel and accept his guidance. Prayer alone will in that case not be enough. But for all of us, whatever the gravity of our sins, prayer will open the door to repentance and forgiveness. Without earnest prayer, repentance and cleansing are not possible. When the door is opened by prayer, there is a possibility for peace.”
Jen Hatmaker
“If they don’t love Jesus and people, it matters zero if they remain virgins and don’t say the f-word. We must shepherd their hearts, not just their hemlines.” and “Jesus operates beyond the tidy boundaries of good behavior. Rather than simply enforce his rules, we should show our kids his kingdom. That’s where they will discover a savior to fall in love with.”

Thank you so much for your insight. This is the first podcast of yours I have listened to but it won’t be the last. What was the name of the song at the end
The song is “All He’s Done for Me” by Clive Romney.
Can you post the quotes you quoted about repentance?
Here’s the one from Elder Holland. “However many chances you think you have missed, however many mistakes you feel you have made or talents you think you don’t have, or however far from home and family and God you feel you have traveled, I testify that you have not traveled beyond the reach of divine love. Hope that helps. Maybe I’ll start posting all the quotes in they synopsis from now on.
I love The sing at the end. Can you tell me the name and composer??
Sure. It is called, “All He’s Done For Me” by Clive Romney
Wonderful podcast Melanie! Can’t wait for the next!
This was a rough week. I had to go to court with my sister who’s trying to get custody of her son. It was nasty and I was shaken. I then thought about the kidney stone. I told my sister this is a kidney stone. lol. I explained your kidney stone miracle. (Can’t remember which episode). You’ve been my anchor to Come Follow Me and the way you speak is just touching. Today i was listening to this episode as i drove to the courthouse. I had to stop at the song cause I needed not to cry lol. I cry too much. Also, when you spoke about weaknesses – I identified a couple of those and brought them to the Lord. I’m still trying to identify how I can be stronger and cry less among others. Thanks for doing this. I appreciate your time into this. Best podcast. You make me see scriptures from different angles and see things i didn’t before. Thank you! After a horrible day at court I’m happy to be able to pray and to have the scriptures.
I love what you shared about faith. How many times are we taught about faith at home and in church etc. How you said it this week for whatever reason really stuck with me. “Why do we need faith? When we have faith WE GROW CLOSER TO GOD AND OUR SAVIOR. If we knew everything and everything could be proven, how would we become closer to God?” Thank you for sharing this. When you shared this it
made me think of this talk by Elder Lawrence Corbridge titled “Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.” I can send it to you if you’re interested 🙂 Thanks!
I will look that talk up! Thanks so much!!
I found your podcast today! I listened to 3 of them so far!! Thank you for taking the time to do this podcast.

I spent a lot of time to find something such as this
It works quite well for me
It works very well for me
I spent a great deal of time to locate something similar to this
Love you & your work TY
I was listening to your podcast before I get to teach primary to my ward virtually. I don’t like being photographed so I am struggling and I knew your words of faith in the Book of Mormon and what I would be sharing with the primary would help. They did! And I used to walk around the Mesa temple every Sunday night to feel the spirit, to calm my nerves, and give me the boost I needed to get through the next week. There really is something about being on holy ground to strengthen you. Thank you for reminding me of that time and something to look forward to in this unsettling time.

Thank you so much for the time and sacrifice you give doing this posdcast for all of us. I’ve listened on and off for several years but this is the first time I’ve left a comment. Sorry about that.
It’s not right that you wouldn’t know the impact you have on many lives turning people to Christ.
It always gives me such happiness to hear your testimony of our Savior and of the scriptures. Now I am teaching seminary and I’ve often had bits of your podcast come to my mind when I struggle with how to teach the doctrine in a way the kids will relate to. I find myself going back and searching through your podcasts and end up finding additional nuggets of gold. It’s wonderful and I just want to say thank you.
Thanks so much for taking the time to tell me. It really motivates me to keep moving forward!
