Episode 12 Jacob 1-4 Be Reconciled unto God through the Atonement of Christ

March 9–15

Jacob 1–4

Be Reconciled unto God through the Atonement of Christ

The Nephites considered Nephi their “great protector” (Jacob 1:10). He had defended them against attacks from their enemies, and he had warned them about spiritual dangers. Now he was gone, and the task of leading the Nephites spiritually fell to Jacob, whom Nephi had consecrated to be a priest and teacher of the people (see Jacob 1:18). By inspiration, Jacob perceived that his people needed to be taught with “much boldness,” for they were “beginning to labor in sin” (Jacob 2:7, 5). These sins were much like what people struggle with today: love of riches and sexual immorality. And yet while Jacob felt that he had to condemn this wickedness, his heart also ached for its victims, whose hearts had been “pierced with deep wounds” (Jacob 2:35). Jacob testified that healing for both groups—the sinner and the spiritually wounded—comes from the Savior Jesus Christ. Jacob’s message, like the message of Nephi before him, was a call to “be reconciled unto [God] through the atonement of Christ” (Jacob 4:11).

  1. Thank you so much for putting yourself out there, for being yourself and most importantly bringing the spirit, I feel it EVERY time I listen (which is every week of course). I’ve always thought I was pretty much fundamentally a happy person and could lean on my relationship with my Savior through anything but my family recently moved and we were having a bit of a rough time so though my testimony didn’t waiver (I was still reading my scriptures daily, praying and listening to talks) But I was feeling a little sorry for myself and impatient to see the “why” of our move, and just in a rut. An amazing friend of mine told me about your podcast so I started listening and back-listening, it was like having a great conversation with a friend about the gospel (probably because I talk to you while I listen 😂). You were such a light in a lonely and hard time in my life. So thank you and remember for every 1 person there is with a negative comment, there are at least 100 positive. Shine on!

    1. I really connected to the attention you brought to the opener of this lesson that said “when you record spiritual impressions, you show that you want the Holy Ghost to teach you”. This immediately brought to mind the opener from Come Follow Me of the New Testament, Nov 4-10, that said “Recording spiritual impressions helps you recognize what the Holy Ghost wants to teach you. Acting on your impressions demonstrates your faith that those promptings are real” 🤯 wo, loved this! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and inspiration.
