“A Marvelous Work and a Wonder”
“I prophesy unto you concerning the last days,” Nephi wrote (2 Nephi 26:14). In other words, he was writing about our day. And there’s reason to be concerned about what he saw: people denying the power and miracles of God, rampant envy and strife, the devil binding people with strong cords. But in addition to these latter-day “works of darkness” (2 Nephi 26:10, 22) led by the adversary, Nephi also spoke of “a marvelous work and a wonder” led by the Lord Himself (2 Nephi 27:26). And at the center of that work would be a book—a book that speaks from the dust, that exposes Satan’s lies, and that gathers the righteous like a standard. That book is the Book of Mormon, the marvelous work is the work of the Lord’s Church in the latter days, and the wonder is that He invites all of us, in spite of our weaknesses, to participate.
Heavenly Father is more “boundless in his mercies and blessings, than we are ready to believe or receive” (The Joseph Smith Papers, “History, 1838–1856, volume D-1,” p. 4 [addenda],
I also found this quote there,
“God has designed our happiness, the happiness of all his creatures, he never has, he never will, institue an ordinance, or give a commandment to his people that is not calculated in its nature to promote that happiness which he has designed, and which will not end in the greatest amount of good and glory to those who become the recipients of his law and ordinances.” – Joseph Smith
As you were speaking about President Benson being the sentinal on the wall, it brought my thoughts to Nephi and President Nelson.
So many of the prophets in the scriptures and modern day have seen just what Nephi saw, the world from beginning to end.
With my testimony of President Nelson and his power of revelation and the gathering that he continually speaks of I can’t imagine he has not seen these things too.
If it was overwhelming for Nephi and thousands of years away and so important to him to share with his people and us, can you imagine President Nelson?!
His film strip of the last days is so much shorter than Nephis!!
He is on that wall and sees how close all those things are and what we as a church and individuals need to be doing.
I guess the point of my thoughts is how much we need to listen and act upon his council, warnings, etc.!!
Thank you for sharing each week!
Thank you for being my friend! This episode was so moving for me. The one time I I got a exact answer to my prayers in the scriptures was fading and I question it. Now I remember!!!
Thank you
Thank you for this week’s podcast! You drive home the points so memorably and I appreciate your inspiration. Now I can tell myself “Get your face in the Book of Mormon!” every day!
I just listened to your msg today and I want to say “Thank you!” It was just what I needed to hear and think about.
…wow!
I loved your idea about tying a string around an electronic device to remind ourselves if it is a distraction (flaxin cord) or leading us to Christ. I took your idea and saved a picture of flaxin cord on my lock screen so when ever I turn on my phone I get a visual reminder. Keep up your great work 👍
That’s the BEST idea!
Thank you so much for your time and effort to create something that is such a blessing. I find it so interesting and helpful to hear and learn how others receive revelation. I have been blessed and am thankful to have been able to hear the voice of the spirit in my life since childhood as well. If you see this and have a moment could you remind me of the talk from President Nelson I thought it was you mentioned last week originally of him speaking of reading the Book of Mormon as inoculating ourselves.
Warmly,
Gretchen
