This episode is about Satan and how much he wants to stop God’s work from progressing. But never fear, the Lord’s “wisdom is greater than the cunning of the devil.”
From the manual:
As the translation of the Book of Mormon progressed, a question naturally arose: What should Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery do about those pages of the translation that had been lost? The logical thing might be to go back and retranslate that portion, but the Lord could see something that they could not—wicked men were plotting to alter the words on those pages to cast doubt on Joseph’s inspired work. God had a plan to thwart Satan’s efforts and compensate for what was lost. This plan was put into motion thousands of years earlier when the prophet Nephi felt inspired to create a second record that covered the same time period. Later, Mormon was inspired to include this record in the Book of Mormon “for a wise purpose” known to the Lord (see Words of Mormon 1:3–7).
“My wisdom,” the Lord said to Joseph, “is greater than the cunning of the devil” (Doctrine and Covenants 10:43). That’s a reassuring message in a day like ours, when the adversary’s ongoing efforts to weaken faith are intensifying. Like Joseph, we can be “faithful and continue on” in the work God has called us to do (verse 3). Then we will find that He has already provided a way so that “the gates of hell shall not prevail” against us (verse 69).
See Saints, 1:51–61.
Go read this article. Read it with your family. It’s soooo good.
My friend told me out your pod cast a month ago when I lost my job I loved dearly. I started listening to it on my road to emotional recovery. I loved your review you shared of the little girl that listens to you before bed. Our 12 year old has anxiety and for the past 12 years has needed us to lay next to her to put her to sleep every night. My husband and I alternate nights but it has been an embarrassment to her that she still needs us. I decided last week to tell her about the little girl you mentioned. She decided to try it last week. We are 5 days of her putting herself to sleep! This has been a blessing for our whole family! Thank you!
That is the coolest!! I’m so happy you shared that!! My sister did a podcast for a year about the Book of Mormon. I’m still keeping it out there even though she currently isn’t doing new ones. It’s her interviewing kids about what they feel about the gospel. It’s called Book of Mormon for Youth by Shelby Stroud. She might like listening to that as well. I’ll tell the girl that sent me the original post that it’s helping others! Give your daughter a big high five from me and if she ever wants to FaceTime me, I’d love to say hi!
As I read Doctrine and Covenants 11:21 tonight your name came into my mind, this fits you so well, I think the Lord has blessed you to be able to declare His word and bring others to Christ. Thank you for taking the time to share with us
Thank you so much!!!! (heart heart heart!)
Maybe I was the person that needed to hear what you said about patience this week in regards to President Uchtdorf’s talk. Thank you so much for sharing about it! I’ve been waiting on something for only 6 months, but sometimes it feels like eternity. And there are moments when I feel hopeless about it. What you said helped a lot and reading the talk helped so much. Thank you for following the Spirit and listening to that prompting. It made my week!
