Episode 12 Doctrine and Covenants 27–28 “All Things Must Be Done in Order”

This episode was about how the Lord’s house is a house of order and that revelation for the church comes through the prophet only.  I talked about how cool it is that we can receive personal revelation & also talked about how easy it is for Satan to deceive us.  But it’s ok, just repent!

From the manual:

Revelation was still a relatively new concept for the Saints as the Restoration continued to unfold. Early Church members knew that the Prophet Joseph Smith could receive revelation for the Church, but could others? Questions like this became critical when Hiram Page, one of the Eight Witnesses of the gold plates, believed he had received revelations for the Church. Many faithful Saints believed that these revelations were from God. The Lord responded by teaching that in His Church “all things must be done in order” (Doctrine and Covenants 28:13), which meant having only one “appointed to receive commandments and revelations” for the entire Church (Doctrine and Covenants 28:2). Even so, others could receive personal revelation for their part in the Lord’s work. In fact, the Lord’s words to Oliver Cowdery are a reminder to all of us: “It shall be given thee … what thou shalt do” (Doctrine and Covenants 28:15).

Melanie. Thank you. Thank you for staying up late and doing this podcast, even when it feels like an off day. You are an inspiration and I adore you. You got this. So just a piece of historical information, older versions of the D&C talk about it, but our newer ones don’t (and I only really know it because I have one of my Grandmother’s Quads) but when the revelations were first published, many of the names were changed to keep those involved safe from the ridicule and judgment of their peers. I don’t think Joseph’s name was ever changed, but I don’t know. I just thought you’d enjoy knowing that. Hugs to an amazing woman!

Okay, so you haven’t put up notes for this week’s podcast, so I wanted to tell you something.

This week’s not podcast was perfect. You are so amazing. And if going forward, if you decide to look at the lesson and speak on 4 verses, I think most of us would be fine with that.

We love you. We are so grateful for all you do. If you don’t have time to do the whole lesson. Don’t! The 10 minutes you spent was awesome. And just as spirit filled as a full 40 minutes.

You are allowed to change the format of your podcast, it’s yours. Do what’s best for you and your family.

Anyway, I love you. You are wonderful. Have a good week. You didn’t and don’t let any of us down.
